New Echota State Historic Site: The Cherokee Nation’s Capital

New Echota, established as the Cherokee Capital in 1825, was central to Cherokee government, Native American Journalism, and legal history, including the signing of the Treaty of New Echota. Today, visitors can tour a museum and explore original and reconstructed buildings such as the Cherokee Phoenix Print Shop, Supreme Court House, Council House, Missionary Samuel Worcester’s home, Vann’s Tavern and two Cherokee farmsteads.
